5 Things Adult Pathways Does (For Free) That Google Can’t Answer

Adult Pathways launches in beta on August 15, 2026. It’s the third app in the Guiding Pathways family, and it’s the one I’ve been quietly building for the past few months for a very specific reason.

Autism Pathways is the app I built for my family. Adult Pathways is the app I built for a community that told me they needed something of their own.

Over the past few months, I’ve had the same conversation dozens of times. Parents, caregivers, and adults with disabilities have reached out asking a version of this question: “Is there anything like Autism Pathways for adults?”

The honest answer was no. Not really. There are disability service directories. There are Medicaid explainer sites. There are nonprofits with resource lists. But there wasn’t an app that treated adults with disabilities as the audience, not as an afterthought.

So I built one.

Adult Pathways is not “Autism Pathways for grownups.” It’s a completely different app designed around the specific reality that adult disability services work fundamentally differently from children’s services. And it’s built with things Google can’t do, because search results don’t remember you, don’t know your state, don’t track your applications, and definitely can’t tell you what to do next.

Here’s what it actually does. Every one of these is available in the free tier.

1. Guides you through adult Medicaid without pretending it’s simple

Adult Medicaid is not the same as children’s Medicaid. Eligibility is calculated differently. Renewal happens differently. The paperwork asks for different things. And the deadlines that trip families up are almost never the ones you’d expect.

Adult Pathways walks you through it step by step. Not with a 40-page PDF you have to read. With guided prompts that ask what you already know, what you don’t, and what state you’re in. Then it tells you exactly what to do next.

If your application gets denied, it tells you how to appeal. If your renewal is coming up, it reminds you before the deadline. If your income situation changed and you’re worried about losing coverage, it walks you through the “spend down” rules for your state.

The full Medicaid pathway is free forever. Google can tell you Medicaid exists. Adult Pathways tells you how to actually navigate it in your specific situation.

2. Explains adult waivers in the language you actually think in

Adult HCBS waivers are the biggest funding source for adult disability services in the United States. They’re also one of the most confusing systems ever built. Every state runs them differently. Every waiver has different eligibility criteria. And the waitlists are, in some states, longer than the average marriage.

Adult Pathways breaks the waiver system down by state, by service type, and by what actually matters to your life. Are you looking for day program funding? Residential support? Job coaching? In-home services? The app maps what’s available where you live and how to get on the waitlist, if you’re not already.

It also tracks what “aging out” of children’s waivers looks like in your state, so if you’re helping a young adult transition, you know what’s ending, what’s starting, and what needs to happen in between.

The full waiver pathway is free forever, too. This is core mission work.

3. Includes a housing locator built for adults with disabilities

Housing is one of the hardest parts of adult disability life, and one of the most under-served by generic housing tools. Regular apartment finders don’t understand accessibility features. Regular listing sites don’t know which properties accept Medicaid waivers or Section 8 vouchers. Regular real estate agents don’t know what a “host home” is.

The Adult Pathways housing locator does. It filters by:

• Accessibility features (physical accessibility, sensory accommodations, staff support)
• Payment source (Medicaid waivers, SSI, private pay, sliding scale)
• Living arrangement type (independent apartments, supported living, group homes, host homes, family homes with in-home supports)
• Location relative to your family, work, or community

State coverage expands weekly. If your state isn’t fully mapped yet, you can search by region and get partial results while we build out the full database.

The free tier includes housing searches with a monthly cap so you can research options as they come up. Premium removes the cap for anyone in active housing search mode.

4. Sends reminders about the things you actually need to remember

This is the tool I wish had existed when I was helping my family navigate our first Medicaid application. And it’s the tool that adult self-advocates specifically asked for.

The Adult Pathways reminder system tracks:

• Medicaid renewal dates
• Waiver reassessment deadlines
• Appeal filing windows
• Prior authorization expiration
• Prescription refill schedules for time-critical medications
• Annual Medicare and Medicaid open enrollment periods

You get gentle reminders before deadlines, not the day of. Because the day of is too late.

Free tier includes a set number of active reminders, enough to cover the essentials. Premium unlocks unlimited reminders for families with complex situations.

Nothing about this tool is fancy. It’s just a calendar that knows what actually matters and doesn’t let you forget.

5. Answers your 2am questions with Ask Me Anything

Ask Me Anything is the AI assistant built specifically for adult disability services. It’s trained on Medicaid rules, waiver systems, SSI regulations, guardianship alternatives, adult service systems, and the state-by-state differences that make this stuff so hard to figure out.

You can ask it:

• “What’s the difference between SSI and SSDI and which one am I applying for?”
• “My waiver caseworker said something about ‘level of care’ and I don’t understand what she meant.”
• “I got a letter about my Medicaid and I don’t know what it’s telling me. Can I paste it in?”
• “What are my rights if my day program is closing?”

It answers in plain language. It cites its sources. It says “I don’t know” when it doesn’t know. And it never pretends to be a lawyer, doctor, or benefits counselor.

Ask Me Anything is not ChatGPT. It’s trained specifically on our domain, uses privacy-protected inference, and doesn’t remember your questions across sessions unless you’re logged in and want it to.

Free tier includes one AI question per day. Premium removes the daily cap for anyone who needs more support.

About free vs premium

I want to be direct about this because it matters.

The guidance is free forever. Both pathways, adult Medicaid and adult HCBS waivers, are always fully available at no cost. This is the mission. Guiding families through complicated systems is not something we will ever paywall.

The tools have a free tier with reasonable caps, and a premium option that removes the caps. The housing locator, the reminder system, and Ask Me Anything all work in the free tier. Premium ($14.99 per month or $79.99 per year, with a 7-day free trial) is for people who want unlimited access to those tools.

Here’s why premium exists. Guiding Pathways Foundation is a nonprofit in transition. My 501(c)(3) status is pending, and until it’s finalized and donation funding is established, premium subscriptions are what sustain the mission. Every premium subscription keeps the free tier free for the next family that needs it, funds the state-by-state waiver research that makes the pathways accurate, and pays for the AI infrastructure that answers questions at 2am.

If premium is not in your budget, the free tier is genuinely useful. Both pathways, guided walkthroughs, and the tools at reasonable levels. You will not be pushed to upgrade constantly, and there are no dark patterns designed to make the free experience frustrating.

The goal is not to squeeze families for money. The goal is to sustain the mission until we can operate fully on donations.

About your data

This part matters, so I’m going to be direct.

Adult disability data is some of the most personal data any of us have. It includes health information, financial information, sometimes information about our cognitive abilities and support needs. It’s exactly the kind of data that big tech companies would love to have.

They will never get it from us.

• We do not sell your data. Not now, not ever. It’s in our Terms of Service and it’s how the app is built.
• We do not share your data for advertising. We don’t run ads. We don’t have data partners. We don’t have “affiliates.”
• Your data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Standard AES-256 encryption on our AWS DynamoDB storage.
• You can delete your data at any time. From within the app or by emailing hello@guidingpathways.help.
• The Ask Me Anything AI does not save your queries unless you’re logged in and choose to save them for your own reference.
• We honor Global Privacy Control signals. If your browser sends GPC, we treat it as an opt-out request without you having to ask.

What “beta” means

Adult Pathways launches in beta on August 15, 2026. That means the core features work and are ready for real families to use. It also means:

• Some state-specific waiver data is still being added
• The housing locator has full coverage in some states and partial coverage in others
• Ask Me Anything is trained but continually improving as we get real usage
• There will be small bugs and rough edges

If you find something that isn’t working or isn’t right, tell me. There’s a feedback button in the app. I read every message myself.

Beta users get first access, direct communication with the team (which is currently me and a scrappy group of caseworkers and adult self-advocates who are helping shape the app), 3 months of premium on the house, and the ability to influence the final product.
