New York has temporarily paused some new Medicaid provider enrollments, including enrollments for applied behavior analysts. If your child already receives services from an enrolled Medicaid provider, this announcement does not end those services. The concern is mostly for families who are trying to find a new provider, especially a newly opened practice or agency.
What changed
New York State announced an immediate moratorium of at least six months on new Medicaid provider enrollments in several categories. The affected categories include applied behavior analysts, durable medical equipment suppliers, licensed home care service agencies, managed long-term care plans, pharmacies, and laboratories.
The state is taking this step while it works to meet a federal directive requiring every enrolled Medicaid provider to be revalidated within 24 months. Before this directive, New York providers were generally revalidated every five years.
What this means for families
Your current enrolled Medicaid provider can continue to serve you. This is not a cancellation of Medicaid benefits or an order to stop ABA services.
However, a newly licensed ABA therapist, a newly opened practice, or an agency changing ownership may not be able to enroll in Medicaid during the pause. Families who are searching for a new provider may see fewer Medicaid options until the state resumes enrollment processing.

- If you are happy with your current provider, make sure you have their current contact information and keep appointments as scheduled.
- If you are looking for a new provider, ask whether the provider is already enrolled with New York Medicaid before investing time in an intake process.

The moratorium is expected to last at least six months from the late July 2026 announcement. New York has said it will release more details and hold a webinar about the requirements and process.
